Membership Dinner & Dessert Meetings
• February dinner meeting at Independence Village with speaker Roger Crum of Ssshhh.
• March dinner meeting at Treichel’s Grille with speaker Wayne Enders, Portage Historical Society, on the early settling of Aurora.
• April dessert meeting in the Gallery honored Manny and Bonnie Barenholtz, developers of Four Seasons and Walden residential developments, marking completion
of the first phase of the Society’s “Village in Transition” neighborhood survey, prepared by intern Petra Knapp.
• May dinner meeting featured Hudson Historian Tom Vince speaking on Lincoln’s stops in Ohio.
• July summer picnic, catered by Mazzulo’s Market at Moebius Nature Center.
• September dessert meeting in the Gallery featuring The Rev. Kevin Horak, assistant pastor of Church in Aurora, presenting history of the founding of the church in recognition of their bicentennial.
• October dinner meeting at Mazzulo’s Market and Deli featuring Tanya and Dave Shively and Rose Dougherty, devoted ACT volunteers onstage and backstage, provided an entertaining overview of the theatre on its 50th anniversary.
Highlights
• Collaborated with Rotary Club of Aurora to sponsor the Aurora Antiques Show and Sale on June 28 and 29 at Leighton Intermediate School. In addition to the nearly 40 vendors who sold collectibles at least 100 years old, the show also featured a consignment booth for individual residents to sell local treasures.
• Docent Appreciation Luncheon was held at Café Toscano in June 2009 and in March, we provided lunch for the Aurora Memorial Library staff for all their extra effort to sell our ornaments and other gift items.
• Geauga Lake Park continued to be preservation priority for the society. The Society produced for sale a collector’s post card set featuring 15 unique photos of the park by well-known photographer, Scott Pease. The Society also displayed park artifacts now in our care at the Geauga Lake Today Town Hall Meeting.

Volunteers Recognized at Annual Meeting
• Dick Fetzer, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his longtime service to the society, its board and museum. Fetzer who served several terms as board president, co-authored the first volume of the town’s history and continues to serve as a primary reference for all questions about Aurora’s earliest days.
• B Koglman, a former board member, received a Volunteer of the Year award for recruiting volunteers, organizing and training docents to staff the museum’s public hours.
• Jean Rumbold, a former board president, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her many years of work at every level and nearly every society committee, especially the antiques show.
• Marianne and Earl Biederman received Volunteer of the Year awards for their work on the Aurora Antiques Show and Sale. Earl served many years as co-chair of the event, while Marianne spearheaded the always popular consignment component of the sale.
