To enhance and maintain the community identity of Aurora by preserving and communicating its rich history. We are a 501C3 Non-profit organization.

The Aurora Historical Society’s mission is to preserve Aurora’s history through collections and displays of artifacts, as well as provide educational programs for all ages. The society has successfully created programs and exhibits in the past highlighting its collections as well as items on loan from its members and the public.

The Aurora  Historical Society was incorporated in the State of Ohio on August 1, 1968, as a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and collecting the artifacts of the past, informing and educating the public in the present to better prepare for the future. The Society sponsors lectures, field trips and special exhibits, publishes the informative newsletter, The Aurora Pioneer, and hosts monthly social meetings featuring informative and historically related speakers. The Society also oversees the management, collections and exhibits of the Aurora Historical Museum and provides volunteer docents for students and other visitors.

Aurora Historical Society recognizes the hard work and generosity of early organizers including John I. Eldridge, Kitty Riley Wheeler and Seabury Ford. We also salute the efforts of Pearl Cochran McGranahan, Howard Himan, Bruce Biggar, John McDonald, Leon K. Harmon, Louise Durfee Aldrich, Nelson Doubrava, George Hettinger, J.R. Hutcheson, Kathryn  Livengood and Arthur Moebius.

In addition, we acknowledge the Wheeler estate, which bequeathed funds to the Aurora Memorial Library Trust to build the new wing that provided early space for the Society, and to the people of the city of Aurora for the funds to nearly double the library lower level that now houses the business office, meeting and storage space, archives, collections and museum of the Society.

Finally, we pay special tribute to the Arthur and Ruth Moebius Foundation for their generous endowment.

AURORA HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM, located in the Aurora Memorial Library building, 115 E. Pioneer Trail, is free and open to the public Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m., during intermission of Aurora Community Theatre performances and through special arrangement by calling 330-995-3336.
