I was born in Aurora ( Geauga Lake Area) born in 1954 my Parents lived at 1160 Moneta Ave. The land my parent house was on was sold or given to them by my dad's uncle Louis Schultz he a had another lot next to the one we lived on. I would like to find out more about how the land came to my great uncle and what other land he had. Also are there any old employee records Geauga Lake Park 1920's and or any information about Aurora Lake Park (Later Aurora Shores)
Thanks Dale Schultz

The last record I have of my ancestor Electa Clark Garfield is in the 1840 United States Federal Census in Aurora as 1 female 50-60 born 1780-1790. Her husband Caleb Chase Garfield remarried a widow from the of township of Suffield named Amanda Root (maiden name unknown) on 21 Feb 1848. Caleb is found in the 1850 Shalersville census with Amanda her two children from her previous marriage, Warren and Earl O Root; also in the household is Harriet Osborn age 10.

Caleb married 29 Aug 1854 a third wife Permelia (Millie) Bixby daughter of Elisha Bixby and Lucy Spafford, and widow of Alanson Morrison and later Simeon Hall. Caleb died intestate ca 1859 in Portage County, probably Streetsboro.

I have not been able to find the burial place for either Electa or Caleb Garfield in the cemetery records published by the Portage County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Do you have any other resources that can help me? Are there many cemeteries with unmarked or illegible gravestones where they might be buried in Aurora, Shalersville or Streetsboro?

Many thanks,
Pamela Brett in Berkeley, California

Hi,
I see that on one Tues. each month the Twinsburg Historical Society has a small display at their Bob Evans on Rt 82 and there is a handout by members to patrons of Bob Evans that offers 15% of the sales to Twinsburg Historical Society if the flyer is presented at time of check-out. It is from 6 am - 10 pm one Tues a month. Can you do this with our Bob Evans in Marketplace 4 Corners? Just a thought.
Thanks for your continued efforts to show us where we came from in our area.

I'm performing a risk assessment on a building in Aurora, located at 59 East Garfield Road, constructed around 1828. I was told that this building served the underground railroad in the 1850s. Any information you can provide me on this facility is appreciated. My email address is daleguidroz@yahoo.com. Thank you.

When I was born in 1946, my father was the superintendent of Geauga Lake Park. We lived on the grounds of the park until I was ten years old, when we moved to Cleveland. My older sisters also lived there until their weddings in 1955 and 1956. Lots of memories there for sure! How sad to see it wasting away.
