The American Library Association Public Programs Office has chosen the Aurora Historical Society to host Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War, a traveling exhibition developed by the National Constitution Center, Philadelphia, and the American Library Association Public Programs Office, with the generous support of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The exhibition will tour the country from October 2011 through the fall of 2015. It will appear in Ohio only eleven times. The exhibition will be on display in AHS’s museum from February to April 2013.
AHS hosted the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibition, Key Ingredients: America by Food in 2008. The event, supported by many local groups, organizations, and businesses, was a great success and attracted over 1,500 people to Aurora in a six week period. The museum is free and open to the public from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and by appointment from 11:00 – 3:00 Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Saturday, February 23 – Please join us for a gala and unveiling of the collection from 6:30 – 9.
-7:00 a troupe of re-enactors will present a 45 program in the theater.
Presidential re-enactors from the “We Made History” organization will remain in character during the whole evening & share their knowledge of the eras in which they lived.
7:45 unveiling of exhibition and gala celebration featuring heavy appetizers, desserts, libations

March 13—Aurora Chamber of Commerce holds its monthly meeting in the gallery & will visit the exhibition.
March 16—History Professors Dr. Daniel Kilbride, John Carroll University & Dr. Diane Barnes, Youngstown State University, will discuss the era. Dr. Kilbride will talk about “Lincoln & Civil Rights during the Civil War,” & Dr. Barnes will talk about “Abolitionists & Lincoln.” As many of you know, Ohio was active with abolitionists but Aurora did not so energetically support ending slavery. This should be a lively event!
March 26—Aurora Memorial Library features “Aurora Cooks” will feature cast iron cooking. (Call AML 330-562-6205 for details)
March 30—Dr. Peter D’Onofrio, President, Society of Civil War Surgeons will present “Medical Advancements in the Civil War.” This should be an enlightening discussion which will make us all appreciate the level of medical care & technology we enjoy today!
April 5—Closing Day of the exhibition.
