March 2, 1925 Monday

Very cold today about 8° above zero. Rhodes back from Dover. He has been ill for a day or two. Kuhlman at office from 11:00 o’clock until 6:00. Mr. Manchester (sent by McDonald) at office in regard to a position as booker for picnics. Electrical Contractors at office with general plan of wiring etc. McWethy called about 5:00 with ______ of the Fred Henry frontage? Brewer home from Florida at noon reports fine trip. While not ______ for a few days.

March 3, 1925 Tuesday

Warmer this afternoon but very cold & slippery in the morning. Mr. Anderson swing today from Youngstown at office at 2:00 with Mr. Luzzi? From Philadelphia builder of the “Skooter” to figure in installments at the Lake. Think Anderson will install it. Byard Wright at office with bill for surveying at Allendorffs. McWethy at 2520 after dinner to discuss Geauga. Asked him to get sample of such? Pickles died at Brainard & Woodruffs hospital. Went to see him after dinner & ordered him buried in B&W’s dog cemetery befitting the gentleman that he was.

March 4, 1925 Wednesday

Calvin Coolidge inaugurated as President of the United States today at noon. Kate 3 not very well today & in bed. Jim McWyler or McMyler called at the office after lunch. Several parties called in regard to concessions at Geauga Lake. Mr. LE Holender delivered the abstract of the Kent property. At 3:00 pm left office & drove to Geauga Lake met McWethy & looked over the Giles property with reference to a sewer system. Considerable snow & slippery but not cold. Home at 7:00 pm.

March 5, 1925 Thursday

Nothing unusual at office except routine. Mr. Adams of H&S called to go over the details of opening books for the Monobloc Co. Took him to lunch at Allendorfs. Kuhlman at office in afternoon. Wachoh? Called & said McMd Co had discharged him effective May 1st. Kate 4 at dentists & went home with me after dinner we all drove to Elenville High School to see the season play “She stoops to Conquer” Catherine Goodwin had one of the leading parts.

March 6, 1925 Friday

At office early. Lunch at Hollender with AR Fraser saw Mr. Wm. Foster there. At 3:00 left office & drove via Krusman? St & Center Road to Geauga Lake. Met McWethy & looked over propositioning? Of eleven lines running through Henry property then home. McWethy came to 2520 after dinner & gave him a check for pay roll etc for last half of February.

March 7, 1925 Saturday

White returned this morning from his trip to Florida(re Feb 14). Kuhlman at office. Lunch at Allendorffs with HJK. At 2:30 drove to Geauga Lake went to Kinsman? To SOM Center road. 24 miles from 13th st. to the lake. McWethy started in the west line? To put up the fence parts. Work of remodeling Hatch house progressing. Home in evening. Kate 4 at party at Park Lane Villa. Warm today, snow practically gone.

March 8, 1925 Sunday

Slept late until 9:00. Fed the pigeons & fixed the fires. Several Robins & blue jays in evidence at 2520. At 11:00 am drove to Angelo Palemero’s. He gave me a pot of tulips then home for dinner. At 3:00 Angelo came to 2520 & we drove to Geauga Lake. Wanted him to see it with the idea of making a model of the whole proposition for exhibition. Home about 6:00. K4 to CAC for dinner, K3 with Mabel? Van? To play here? Lynn & myself drove to Van? To see him a few moments & then home & in the hay.

March 9, 1925 Monday

Kuhlman at the office practically all day. Mr. McDonald of Akron at office about 2 or 3 hours. He wants all the concessions at Geauga Lake in a 50.50 basis. Lunch at Allendorffs with Kuhlman & McDonald. With Rhodes had conference with Geo. Coulton concerning a plant on 152nd St. Rhodes will look at it tomorrow. GC said could exhibit model of Geauga in the bank lobby (see Mar 8). Brought K3 home from Union club at 6:00 pm.

March 10, 1925 Tuesday

Down town early. Met John Garfield on way to office who discussed LJK vs Sam Lague. Miss Dever called at office. McWethy at office brought sample of muck/vines? From Geauga Lake & also brought unloader? For cars of Cinders? Kuhlman at office. He had about 60 answers to “ad” for bookers for picnics. Home about 6:30. K3 & Mrs. Richardson down town to see ”Rain” also havey rain (real one) & lightening at night. First of year.

March 11, 1925 Wednesday

Lunch at Allendorfs with HJK. Mrs. Budd called at 1:30 to discuss wills being drawn for her self & Mr. Budd. She took the rought drafts of the documents with her. Byard Wright brought the map of Geauga Lake—nearly completed. Called at Trino? Club for R3 at 6:00 & found Lynn & Marcia Thomas? Then were & all four came home in the Roadster after dinner took map of Geauga Lake to Pugel? To discuss the ______ of a model for advertising.

March 12, 1925 Thursday

Very fine day, clear, dry & cold. Mrs. Scott & Dorothy at the office going over their affairs. Kuhlman also there. McWethy drove to 2520 after dinner to discuss Geauga Lake. Otherwise nothing doing.

March 13, 1925 Friday

Rained nearly all day. Had conference with Maurice Warchne? & also John Marshall _____? In regard to having the bill board restrictions removed from Carnegie Air? Property. They both think it would be impossible. Conference with Kuhlman & Judge Terrell in re Kuhlman contract. Collier? Elect[ric] Co. Mr. Collier & Mr. Linnbaun? Submitted plan for electric lay out for Geauga Lake. K3 had Mrsses? Robert for dinner & so I went home with HJK dinner & pool. Home at 12:00 in heavy rain. Again Friday the 13th & nothing happened, see 2/13.

March 14, 1925 Saturday

Cold—a winter day. Kuhlman at the office. White & Brewer busy with clients revenue tax returns. Lunch at Allendorffs with White. Then went to the May Co. & bought a pair of rubber boots for me at Geauga. Drove to the lake met McWethy & walked around the lake. Inspected the new nuloader? He has the fence posts ready? Around the eastern property. On way home my roadster stopped driving? In Solon. Mc towed me to his house. Had dinner there. Cleaner gasoline strainer & car ok.

April 1, 1925 Wednesday

April Fool’s day–no bigger fool than usual. Miller returned to Chicago last night. Took Salisbury down town this morning. Told him to see what deal could make with Williams in refreshments. Bought 15 Dodgem Jr. cars—which we will operate. Had interviews with all the tank people during the day. Salisbury going to Detroit tonight. Took him to Everlook Rd at 3:00 & then down to the Lake. Water lowering fast. McWethy figuring out scheme for bathing beach. Smith has the coaster all started? Out. After dinner went to office W&B there discussed Herman Davis Case.

April 2, 1925 Thursday

Very pleasant day, temp about 40° to 50°. Mr. Burke called with another party who wanted to arrange a trade of Lafferty property for Carnegie Ave. property at 100th st. Lunch at Allendorfs with Kuhlman. LJH at the office with Will Yost. Went to the lake at 3:30. Collier getting ready to start electric lines, etc. Mr. Mangrove? Of NOT & L Co. at office, signed a five year contract for power.

April 3, 1925 Friday

Very pleasant day but cool. Interviews with Garrmuel? & Sawyer in regard tank. At noon with White drove to west 53rd st to try on suits. I also ordered a top coat. Then went to office of Aur? Sheet & Tin Plate Co. Mr. Richards out. Then to office of SC&H Conference with LJH in re ______? After dinner with Lynn drove to McWethy’s gave him check for carpenters pay roll. Lynn’s dog ok.

April 4, 1925 Saturday

Interviews with Garmmuel? & Sawyer in re tank for Geauga Lake. Gave the order to Sawyer & have SC&HA figuring on a triplex pump. Elijah Baten called at 12:30 with him & HJK went to Allendorfs for lunch. Then went to the lake work progressing satisfactorily. Water lowered about eighteen inches. Kate 4’s birthday today. 17 years old. After dinner K4 went to Duffs & Lynn & myself to LJH’s.

April 5, 1925 Sunday

A clear, sunny day not a cloud but cold. Temperature about 40°. Drove to the Lake about 9:30, a few men working filling the concrete forms for Carousel bldg. The raft crew also busy pullling up old piling? Along the water front. Water fine? Home for dinner & then went to the Lake again taking Lynn along. HJK & Helen came ____ also. ETH & Olive. Herman Davis was there during the morning. Home about 6:40 via SOM Center road a very fine drive. Paid March personal bills in the evening.

April 6, 1925 Monday

Another fine cold day. Busy all day with sewer? (sawyer) tank man—Simpson of Collier Co. & many others. Got lower? On 20th Century Limited & after going home for dinner, I had Joe drove me to the 105th St. Station train left at 8:50.

April 7, 1925 Tuesday

Arrived Grand Central Station at 9:30. Breakfast on the train. Went down town to offices of Erie R? (Railroad?) at 50 Church St. Met Mr. Baldwin, VP & he introduced me to Mr. TC Powell, V P in charge of traffic. Went over the question of _____ & passenger traffic as fully as possible. He said would send air engineer to Geauga within a day or two. Went to Mr. Hayward’s office in the Scraper? Bucket? Went to office of McW I S met Gerry (talked to Len? By phone with Gerry walked up town to NYC Station. Took 6:30 train. Dinner on train.

April 8, 1925 Wednesday

Arrived at 105th Station at 8:20 am. Had to wait a few minutes for Joe as he came for me after taking K & L to school. Drove home & then down town. A lot of mail including plan of the large amusement building at the lake. At 12:00 met Dr. Spencer? At his office in regard to analysis of water of Geauga Lake & springs also. Lunch at Allendorfs At 2:30 Drove to the lake. They have the frame of the ______ landing platform up—Ordered the lumber for the amusement bldg.. Home at 6:30.

April 9, 1925 Thursday

White & Brewer have bben trying the cases of Clapp vs Scott today & yesterday & the court this morning advised Van Lill? To discuss which was done. Mr. Williams of Detroit at office early! Kuhlman there & after lunch K drove him to the lake. Mr. Parsons? VP of the Erie Railroad? & Mr. Drunkle? Supt. Called at office at 2:00 & discussed Geauga Lake fully. They are coming to the Lake one week from tomorrow to go over the ____. Left office at 4:00. Drove to the Lake gave McW checks for labor & material to day –pretty high. Home in the evening. HJK taken ill yesterday very bad stroke—same? Better tonight.

April 10, 1925 Friday

Forsythia in full bloom today at 2520. Joe late for work & so had to take Kate & Lynn to school. Mr. Collier & Mr. Simpson called in regard to extra wiring at the lake. McWethy telephoned that Dr. Spencer? Was at the lake during the morning & took samples of the water for analysis. At 11:00 am had conference with ____ ____ J. Van Severeghe? In regard to Erie Railroad transportation to Geauga. Told Sawyer to put stairs on water tower. Mr. Burk & Mr. Brunch? At office in re Carnegie property. Did not go to the lake today.

April 11, 1925 Saturday

Mr. Salisbury at the office about 9:00am. We ordered by telegraph a whip complete 10 skee ball alleys & a miniature Merry Go Round for the lake. Then went to lunch at Allendorffs—then drove to the lake. 2 carloads of Creosoted? Lumber delivered today—Coaster Cars—miniature loco water etc also arrived from Dayton. Decided on location of toilets etc. Borrowed 100 M from Geo. Anton? Of Union Trust Co. Drove Salisbury to overlook & then home.

April 12, 1925 Sunday

Pleasant spring day, looked like rain part of the time but didn’t. At home until after dinner & then with Lynn drove to Geauga. McWethy there & all the kids—Inspected the miniature locomotive & the cars for the coaster. Fred Mitchell & family at the lake on a tour of inspection. Left the lake about 7:00 & went to McWethy’s house for dinner. Home at 11:00 pm.

April 13, 1925 Monday

Downtown early. Dr. Spenzer phoned me to get new samples from Giles Spring at the lake & at 5:00 pm got bottles for same at his office. Rhodes & Krisley in from Dover. Mr. Cowdeny at the office also. Took 5 additional Monoblock stock. Bought 6 whirloball alleys from Briant Co. Indianapolis by telephone. Got them to reduce five 80.00 ea for cash. Another car load of creosoted lumber delivered at the lake. Kuhlman at office. Fred Hanes? Of Geauga lot owners association at office in regard to making a deal on strip next to dance hall.

April 14, 1925 Tuesday

Up early—went direct to Geauga Lake==construction work progressing satisfactorily. 2 cars of lumber from the Coast arrived today. Took samples of the Giles Spring. Arrived in Cleveland at 1:00pm & gave water to Dr. Spenzer? He said the tests were not showing up so good. Lunch at cafeteria in Union Trust Bldg. Balance of afternoon in office. HR Gill in town. Did not go home to dinner but had same at Allendorfs with White Brewer Ross Brewer & Gill & played pool afterward at Smiths?

April 15, 1925 Wednesday

Down town this morning. Conference with Mr. Holender also Mr. Fraser of the Guardian S&T Co. Went to Jas. Mills’ office Carnegie Steel Co. in re steel sheets for Geauga Lake then to SC&L & Co. in regard to pump for water tank. Mr. Sawyer at office at noon. Says tank shipped from Batavia, Ill. Yesterday. Lunch at Allendorfs with Kuhlman. At 3:00 drove to the lake—Front entrance train? Placed in position today. All Merry Go Round trusses up. After dinner drove to Van Burger? To seen Van about a mob? Showing water to the lake.

April 16, 1925 Thursday

Down town early. Klassen back in the job, recovered from his illness (see April 9th) had lunch with him at Allendorffs. He & I met Dr. Carrigan at the Drs office & made out report of my foot which Dr. C. treated. WJ Patterson at the office & paid him the amount of the 2nd mortgage on Geo. Hatch property also the mortgage on Dr. Hatch property. Called up Mr. Parsons WP of Erie. He will be at the lake tomorrow. Brought a little birthday present for Lynn.

April 17, 1925 Friday

Drove to Geauga Lake arriving about 9:30. Work going forward fast. Mr. Miller & Mr. Salsbury came about 11:00. Mr. Parsons VP of Erie Railroad & Mr. Buckholtz Supt arrived about 12:00 noon went over the traffic situation at length. They will make a track layout showing switches. Left the Lake at 5:20. Lynn’s birthday today. 13 years old. After dinner drove to office. Met trustees of Geauga Lake Lot owners association in re easement over their land. Home at midnight. KK&L went to the Allen theater.

April 18, 1925 Saturday

Down town at 9:00. Gave SC&H Co. order for the pump for water tank at the lake. Paid the Cuyahoga Lumber Co for all lumber delivered. Also made payment to Challwgr? On tank. Also sent Miller Co. 9M? on a/c engineering. Lunch at Allendorffs with HJK. After lunch drove to lake. Met Mr. Anderson of Youngstown who has the swing & coaster car concessions. He is about ready to begin installation. CA Austeble? Came in from Erie. KJ met him at the 105th St. Station.

April 19, 1925 Sunday

Up about 9:00 am. Had early dinner & then with CA, K3 & Lynn drove to the Lake. Met several parties there by appointment among them Mr. Sawyer. Challenger Tank Co. salesman in re location of pump. Came home via SOM Center road. Heavy rain while driving to the lake. CA did not go back to Erie tonight.

April 20, 1925 Monday

Breakfast with CAS & then down town to office. Mr. Cowdeny called & presented me with a very fine forged steel fishing rod. Joe Williams back from Florida. Saw him a moment in White’s office. Lunch at Allendorffs with CA & Rhodes. At 3:00 with CA drove to Geauga Lake. Work of laying miniature railroad progressing ok. Water tank & shooting gallery arrived today. Home for dinner & at 8:30 drove CA to 105th St. Station where he took 9:05 train for Erie.

April 21, 1925 Tuesday

Somewhat warmer today but still cool. Japanese cherry tree in full bloom & some of the Hyacinths also. Bus Co. reported would have busses to Geauga Lake but that fare would be 1.20 round trip which is N.G.? Lunch at CAC with AR France. During the afternoon went to office of Am. Sheet & Tin Plate & took up draft & B/L for Corrugated roofing. Stopped at SCH&Co. Gave Father Grace permission to hold services temporarily in Hatch stand. After dinner drove to Newburg met Kuhlman & then to 83rd & Euclid & met the bookers for picnics at the lake.

April 22, 1925 Wednesday

Warm temperature about 70° Down town. Took Lynn to school—when Joe drove out saw Kate in the car & supposed Lynn was in too but she was not. At 11:00 left office. Stopped at Canfield oil station on Cedar Rd & inflated tires then had lunch at Brown Betty. Met Geo Quann? & Mr. Statson? Then they told me that the lot north of 2520 had been sold & a house would be built. Drove to Geauga. They have three kinds? Of ride out & are starting the amusement bldg.. After dinner with Lynn to McWethy’s & got Lynn’s new dog Jack Frost.

April 23, 1925 Thursday

Down town all day intended to go to Akron but couldn’t make it. Mr. Berk called & offered me 65M for property at Corner Carnegie & 100th St. Mr. Smith of Edectro? Motors Co. called in regard to cars for Geauga Lake service. Two of the officers of the Geauga Lake orchard? Called & offered to loan to us the property next to the dance hall. After lunch drove to office of Otis? Settl Co. in re plates for Dodgem floor. After dinner drove to McWethys to discuss size of above plates. Could? Get 7G x 120.

April 24, 1925 Friday

Drove to Akron at 8:00 am. Got up early 6:30 to help Lynn with arithmetic. Upon arrival at Akron via Brecksville road went to office of the NOT& L. Co. met Margold? & Mr. Arthur also secty of the Company. Left Roadster at Akron Cadillac agency to brakes adjusted. Then drove to the Firestone? Bank. Met Dr. Sisler discussed Monobloc Co. & went with him to the Akron City Club for lunch then drove to Geauga Lake. Work progressing ok—piers for tank finished. Went to McWethy’s for dinner. Payroll tomorrow over 7000. At office at 8:00 a/c meeting of Geauga Lake lot owners association. Kate 4 had dinner party.

April 25, 1925 Saturday

Another warm day—temperature about 80°. Down town during the morning. Mr. O’Neil of Carnegie Steel Co. Planned? Could get the steel for the Dodgem Steel Co. floor from Stock in Cleveland. Kuhlman reported had interview with Judge Henry & tonight he would left the restrictions on lake front property purchased from him. Lunch at Allendorfs with HJK & Kuhlman. Went to FW Roberts Co & got map of US for Lynn. Then home. With K3 & Lynn went to Aunt Minnies for dinner. Home at 11:30.

April 26, 1925 Sunday

Up early for Sunday. Very fine day. Apple blossoms out in full also lilies of the valley. LJ telephoned was going to Aurora for dinner & would stop at Geauga. At 10:00 took Lynn to McWethy’s & then to the lake. LJ&E came along about 11:30. McWethy & John were fishing but no luck. Called for Lynn & at home for dinner then with Lynn drove to the lake again met Rhodes there saw his new son. Collier & Simpson of Collier Co there also. Home about 6:30. Kate 4 out & K3 out of commission.

April 27, 1925 Monday

Pleasant day & much cooler. Down town early & there all day. Lunch at Allendorffs with Brewer. Interesting interview during the morning with salesman of apparatus for boring? Water. Mr. Sheal called in regard to selling his property on 100th St. Also Mr. Quinn in regard to the same subject. McWethy at the office. Met Mr. Ford of Carnegie Steel & inspected? Plates for Dodgem floor. Home at 6:30 & stayed there. Helped Lynn with arithmetic.

April 28, 1925 Tuesday

Saw Mr. ? at Union in re sale of Carnegie property. Said thought better keep it. Kuhlman at office & many others in regard to Geauga Lake. Lunch at Allendorfs. Met Tim Gross there. Drove to Geauga at 12:30. Met Mr. Drece? There in regard to ____ plant not very favorable impressed with her proposition. Merry Go Round Bldg mainly finished & starting to install machinery—Challenger Co. erected 3 bottom legs of water tank. Williams of Detroit here today. Ready To begin his installation. Home at 6:30. Mabel Van at the house for dinner. McWethy & Smith at 2520 in evening to discuss swimming pool. Drove Mabel V home at 11:30.

April 29, 1925 Wednesday

Mr. Williams of Detroit at office with rough draft of his contract for refreshment concessions. Judge Henry & Mr. Webb at office at 11:00 & executed a waiver of restrictions on lake fr4ont property for coaster? & miniature railroad. Drove to the lake at 2:30. Work progressing satisfactorily. Home at 6:30.

April 30, 1925 Thursday

A cold raining day. Down town early. Shave & haircut at the Union Club. Collier & Simpson at office in re changes in rates for electrical workers. Mr. Grimes of Newman Stem Co. at office in re cartridge for shooting gallery. Geo. _______ at the office at 5:30. He has been elected VP & sales manager of McMI Co. to succeed Mr. Gness? Spent the day on miscellaneous work & did not go to lake.

May 1, 1925 Friday

Lovell called at the office this morning. He is building a new house on Eaton Road. Balanced personal bank account. Lunch at Allendorffs with Kuhlman. Had short conference with Dr. Spencer at his office. He said impurities in the water at Geauga Lake could be taken care of by filters & chemical treatment. Made an appointment by phone to meet members of Ohio Board of Health at Columbus Monday am. Drove to the lake at 3:00 pm they raised the high ____ yesterday.

May 2, 1925 Saturday

Had an interview with Rev Wright the head of the Federated Churches in regard to the use of wheels at Geauga Lake. At 12:10 Joe Williams came to the office. Discussed Monobloc with him & agreed in the amount of stock he should have. About 3:00 we went to Allendorfs for lunch & then went back to the office to disucss Joe’s will etc. & finished a bottle of Scotch. At 7:30 went to CAC for dinner & then to 2520 where I arrived at 11:30.

May 3, 1925 Sunday

With Lynn drove to Geauga Lake. Earl Robeck met me there. Work progressing satisfactorily. Home at 1:30. At 5:00 drove Roadster down town & left it at Euclid Square garage & took taxi to Union Station. Took 6:05 Big 4 train for Columbus. Arriving at 10:00. Registered at Chittendon? Hotel. Not feeling very well.

May 4, 1925 Monday

Up at 8:00. Had a restless night & rather groggy. Breakfast at the Chittendon? Coffee room. Went to the office of the State Board of Health. Met Sweeny & Dittae. Discussed swimming pool & drinking water for Geauga Lake. Called on Thad Brown. Secty of State in regard to Geauga Lake Amusement Co. protection? Of charter. Went to Ohio Penitentiary? & took trip through took 4:20 train for Cleveland arriving 7:30. Drove Roadster home.

May 5, 1925 Tuesday

Went to Geauga Lake from 2520 in the morning. Heavy rain all day yesterday & last night—everything wet & very little work going on. Salisbury in town & he & Kuhlman arrived about 11:00 am. Left the lake with S about 2:00& went to office. Paid S for Carousel & shooting gallery but deducted 5.00 for defective cap for Merry Go Round. Brought S to Overlook Rd at 6:00 & then have helped Lynn with her arithmetic.

May 6, 1925 Wednesday

Mr. Salisbury at the office during the morning—but did not show up again during the day. Rained nearly all day & cold—did not go to the Lake. Lunch at Allendorfs with Kuhlman. Mr. Miller? Of Newman Electric Co. called with representative of mfgr of coaster? Gave him order for 30 cars? 10M ea for shooting gallery. Mailed Joe Williams his stock in monobloc Co. Home in evening paid most of personal April bills.

May 7, 1925 Thursday

Down town early. Conference with representative of Company working apparatus for chlorinating water in re bathing pool at Geauga Lake. Conference with Thompson Of Hayden Miller in re sale of certain securities. Columbia Ear? & block? Reached a new high of 66 7/8. Lunch at Allendorfs. Drove to the lake at 2:00. McW said a high wind nearly blew down the coaster yesterday. Challenger have the steel water towner nearly completed. Home at 6:30. Warmer today & some sun.

May 8, 1925 Friday

Met Thompson of Hayden Miller & Co. at office at 9:15 & sold 125M bonds etc. Rhodes in from Dover. Says Monobloc ok. A Mr. Abel at office with sam;les of advertising metal signs for the lake. Kuhlman at the office for an hour. Carr? Ready to sign lease for Restaurant. Called in Shed Snyder. At 3:00 drove to the lake everything progressing ok. Putting in frame for the whip. Skeeball alleys on? The job. Whirloball “ shipped a day or two ago.

May 9, 1925 Saturday

Kuhlman at the office in re miscellaneous matters. Also Krisley. Thompson Tonight? Check for sale of securities to apply on account. HJK & Luce called in regard to insurance in holdings at the lake. Luce subscribed for ins? M manobloc stock. Adams of H&S for lunch with me at Allendorfs & drove with me to the lake—Everything coming along fairly well. Up about 7:30. Drove to Geauga Lake immediately after breakfast. McWethy & Smith were there & Kuhlman with Salisbury & Tuebuer? Where? K met at the dock of the D&C row Co. They having come over from Detroit last night. Triebuer? Is our expert in Bathing pools etc. Spent most of the day discussing bathing beach. All of us except McW had dinner with Mr. & Mrs. Smith who are keeping house in the Liberty Club. It began to rain about 2:00 & rained hard until about 5:00 o’clock. Home about 7:00.

May 11, 1925 Monday

Down town at 8:20. Mr. M.F. Linnick of Detroit dealer in penny arcade machines at the office nearly all day with WJK gave him an order for about 50 machines. Talked to Standard Oil Co. concerning service station at Geauga Lake. Mr. Bates at office after lunch. He agreed on behalf of the McM I Co. to reimburse us for settling in attempting to settle the government claims ___ which the company is interested? City Ice & Fuel delivered a ton of Picohenter? Coal at 2520 for trail.

May 12, 1925 Tuesday

Interview with Mr. Clauss of Standard Oil Co. at office in regard to installation of service station at Geauga. Am to meet them at the lake tomorrow. Lunch at Allendorfs with Brewer. Paid Union Trust Co. 100M borrowed April 14th & 11th. Lawrence Chamberlain of New York at the office. Discussed financing of the Eagle Rubber Co. Drove to the lake at 3:00 pm. Putting floor in amusement building. Roof nearly completed. Drillers started well—got down about 50 ft today. Took a ride on the lake with McW’s rowboat motor. After dinner went to office with W&B worked? On forms of Geauga Lake leases.

May 13, 1925 Wednesday

Not down town today. Drove _____ to Geauga Lake at 8:00 am. Met Mr. Clauss & Mr. Watterson of the Standard Oil Co. in regard to the building of a service station. Mr. Miller on the job. Spend most of the day discussing bathing beach. Anderson completed _____ of steel for aerial swing water tower ready for tank. Home at 6:20. Helped Kate with review of her study of the Constitution.

May 14, 1925 Thursday

Down town all day. Sent order to Chicago for balance of machines necessary to complete penny arcade at the lake. Had conference with McCarthy & Kuhlman Made deal to have McC take charge of merchandise concessions in 15% of net profits & drawing? a/c of 40.00 per week. Intended to go to Dover tomorrow but White on trial of lawsuit & so postponed trip until Saturday. McWethy at 2520 after dinner. Says everything ok. Well drillers down 75% & no water.

May 15, 1925 Friday

Called up Simpson of Collier Co. & objected to progress of outside wiring at Geauga & I was informed that Collier discharged the whole crew & took charge of the work himself. Went to office of Standard Oil Co. for conference in re 30 car loads of _____ they promised to ship there from Toledo. Arranged with White Brewer & Joe Williams to go to Dover tomorrow. Drove to Geauga Lake at 3:00 Challenger Co. have tank nearly complete. Mr. Stemaman shooting gallery operator arrived at the lake at 5:00pm. Amusement building nearly completed well down 80 feet & no water. Mrs. Poster? & EDH at 2520 for lunch.

May 17, 1925 Sunday

Up late. Drove to the lake about 10:30. Very wet & cold. Had trouble with the electricity yesterday but McW had all the offices of the Cleveland building ______ ____. At the lake during this afternoon & adjusted the same. Home about 2:00. Went to movie after supper with K3 & Lynn.

May 18, 1925 Monday

Did not go to the lake today. Learned this morning that Nelson Foster was badly injured last Saturday night during the storm. He was driving down Chester Ave with Eva & his wife & a tree blew over crushing his car. He was taken to Charity hospital. Telephoned LJH after dinner tonight & learned that Nelson died at 4:30 this afternoon. Paid Carnegie Steel Co. for plate for Dodgem floor. Drafted rough form of contract for Williams. McWethy at 2520 after dinner.

May 19, 1925 Tuesday

Prepared agreement between The Geauga Lake Amusement Co. & Williams of Detroit covering refreshment concessions at the Lake. Conference with Mr. Sans? Representing Wellace & Treniau? Chlonuaters? Of Newark, NJ. At 3:00 drove to 2520 HJK drove his Jordan Roadster & we went to the lake in the Jordan? Started to set up the shooting gallery. Have the horses in merry go round nearly all in. Well down 100 ft still in sand.

May 20, 1925 Wednesday

Very beautiful day. Worked on leases in connection with Geauga Lake concessions etc. Lunch at Allendorfs with Kuhlman. Kate 4 at office. Gave her a check for graduation dress. After dinner drove to East Cleveland for White & then to Geauga Lake. Collier made a test of the flood lighting. Same will _____ some adjusting but very good. Skee ball alleys assembled. Took in about 3.00 today framing? Carpenters etc. Home at 11:30.

May 21, 1925 Thursday

Went to Internal Revenue Dept to inquire concerning taxable items at Geauga Lake. They told me everything exempt except the shooting gallery. Went to Court House—recorded my Notary Public Certificate & then to office of County Commissioners in regard to roads to Geauga Lake. Commissioners not in their office but saw EJ Tho_____& county atty. At noon drove to 2520 & then to Nelson Tacter? Forster? Funeral at his residence at 2:30 went to Cemetery & then down town. Met Kuhlman at office & finished contract? For Williams,–Carr & another then to 2520 for dinner & the night.

May 22, 1925 Friday

Lunch with Mr. Adams at Allendorfs. Drove to the lake about 2:30 & gave McWethy check for tomorrows pay roll. Home at 6:30. Very warm today. Temperature about 80° After dinner with K3 & Lynn. Drove to The Heights Theatre to see “Sally” Very good.

May 23, 1925 Saturday

Finished draft of contracts with McCarthy a/c Geauga Lake. Went to Johnsons seed store on E. 9th St & purchased zenia & other flower seed for 2520. About 3:30 drove to the lake for an hour. Arriving at 2520 at 5:30. Then with K-K-& L went to Dr. Goodwins? For dinner & the evening. Home about 11:30.

May 24, 1925 Sunday

Up about 8:30. After breakfast drove to the lake. Heavy rain & hail storm last night & very cold today. Temperature at 8:30 am 40° above. Spent the day with McW, Smith, & Kuhlman discussing bathing pool, etc. Home at 6:30. Drove both ways via SOM Center road. After supper went to Mr. Enist’s ? house to meet with other property owners to discuss new pavement on Fairmont Blvd.

May 25, 1925 Monday

Down town early. Borrowed on demand 25M from Union Trust Co. Paid B/L draft for which shipped from NY 4 21/25. Krisley showed me a rubber covered box handle that seems to be ok. McCarthy at office at noon & signed contract a/c Geauga Lake. Sent checks to Skee ball Co for 10 alleys. Part of penny arcade machines arrived at the lake today. Went to the lake at 2:30. Williams in Cleveland. He doesn’t like the form of his contract. Went to McWethys for dinner. Very cold tonight. Papers say may be frost.

May 26, 1925 Tuesday

Down town early. Mr. Williams of Detraoit spend all the morning in the office & finally signed his contract with a few changes. Mr. Carr proposed restaurant man objected violently to the lease—we will probably not make a deal with him. Had conference with WW of Packer? In regard to sending an artist to the lake to touch up paint for Merry Go Round. Aunt Blanche & Lee at 2520 for dinner & a little bridge. Lee talking of selling her Ford & buying a Dodge. Mr. Chamberlain of NY at the office.

May 27, 1925 Wednesday

Advertising man of Press submitted sample page ad for the lake. By request met Father Gracey & Monsenior Smith at the Cathedral in regard to church site at Geauga & made appointment to meet them at the lake this pm. Received letter from Mr. Henry & Mr. Webb authorizing building of bathing beach or pool on restricted property. Drove to the lake at 1:30. Met Monsenior Smith & O’Reilly & Father Gracey. Smith did not like the proposed site & wanted Gracey? To see if could find something nearer town. Steam shovel began excavating for pool. Stayed out until 9:30.

May 28, 1925 Thursday

Interview with Judge Henry in regard to further removal of restrictions at the lake for swimming pool. Went to _____ C&H Co. & ordered large centrifugal pump for swimming pool. Went to the lake at 2:30, met Mr. ___ sent by Mr. Brant to figure on the restaurant concession. Smith had a dodgem car operating today. Steam shovel made considerable headway. Also shooting gallery. Home at 6:30.

A great many interviews at the office with newspaper men etc. in regard to advertising. Made int reports of D______ C______ for profit for GLAGH? Maple Heights Construction? Co. Mr. John McMyler called at the office at 3:00 pm looking fine. Says arrived in Cleveland yesterday. Went to Lake at 4:30. Had dinner with Mr. & Mrs. Kuhlman & did not leave there until about 9:30. Moved into 2520 seven years ago today.

May 30, 1925 Saturday

Decoration day up early. Put up flag. Lynn has 4 chickens so she was up also to feed them. At 7:30 drove to Woodland? Cemetery & planted a flower on Uncle VS & Aunt Rosamunds graves. The lot has been very well cared for. Then back to 2520—called for White & with him went to Bedford Cemetery. Mr. Lee had our lot in nice shape—then to the Lake. Spent the day there. Home at 6:00. Mabel & Van at 2520 for dinner & then to play house to see “March Hares” very good.

May 31, 1925 Sunday

Very beautiful day. Temp about 80°. Fed the pigeons & Lynn’s new chickens. At 12:20 drove Kate 4 to Duffs to spend the afternoon. About 3:30 drove for Van B & then to Geauga Lake via SOM Center road & return same route. Saw EFH & Alice & Mr. & Mrs. McCarwell. After supper attended meeting of Hammond? Blvd property owners at Mr. Enist’s house in re pavement of street.
