Committees
Archives, Historical Records, and Museum Accessions
Catalogs and preserves artifacts and photos of Aurora’s historic homes and buildings for posterity. This requires very special care and a thorough knowledge of the proper handling and storing of precious items. Numbers and marks all donations of historically significant objects received by the Aurora Historical Society. Each item is recorded in the accessions book.
Hospitality, Showcases and Displays
Organizes food, beverages and decorations for Appetizer/Dessert meetings and other special events. Designs and installs displays in the Library lobby cases.
Membership
Recruits new members, maintains current records of all members, directs the membership campaign and publishes a membership book after the annual drive.
Merchandising
Oversees items to be marketed, including the annual holiday ornaments. Secures retail venues for the merchandise and maintains the Museum Gift Shop.
Programs and Activities
Recruits speakers and arranges the Society’s Dinner and Appetizer/Dessert meetings and determines the time, date and location of the Annual Picnic. The July Fourth and The Chamber of Commerce Booths are also planned by this committee, along with other projects which may arise.
Publicity and Publications
Maintains the Society’s webpage and Facebook page which highlights activities, Museum acquisitions, and events.
Volunteers
Oversees recruitment of volunteers for theatre intermissions and Society events. Coordinates the docents for the Museum’s regularly scheduled hours and student field trips.
Landmark Commission
The Aurora Historical Society selects one member to sit on the five-person Landmark Commission, which protects the City’s historic resources and advises residents on historic restorations.
